The Racer, Kings Island Reviews

After walking through International street and of course stopping at Cinabon© (because its irresistible smell) you decide to go up the Eiffel tower, after a 5 minute wait you make it to the top and you see this wooden coaster that's running two trains, if it's your first time at Kings Island (and never seen a dueling train) you're gonna be quite fascinated by its simple elegance. Now if you're anything like me (as a K.I. is a second home kinda person) then after the Eiffel Tower you head over to some flat ride or one of the bigger coasters first. (For me it's Scrabbler) Once you're done riding your ride you head over to Racer. If you're new your probably going to ride the red train because it always pulls ahead (as you saw when you at the top of the Eiffel tower), but in the end, the blue train always wins by pulling into the station faster.

Racer's Specs:
Park section: Coney Mall
Opening date: April 29, 1972
Type: Wood-Racing
Manufacturer: Philadelphia Toboggan Coasters
Designer: John C. Allen
Track layout: Out and Back
Lift/launch system: Chain
Height: 88 ft
Drop: 82.17 ft
Length: 3,415 ft
Speed: 53 mph

Now time for the description of the ride. I will be going off the red side the most but will try to keep it equal.
So after loading up you pull out of the station (which sometimes the other operator will send the other train out first) on the blue side you pull out of the station with a 90° turn, on the red you go down a little drop before going into a 60° turn (this is probably the most different thing about the two) once at the top of the chain hill one or the other train goes down just a bit earlier than the other starting the race. After dropping 82 ft at 53 mph you go through three little airtime hills before going up a quite large hill which you go down into a slightly banked turn which sends you up another little airtime hill. After all that you go up a hill which turns you back around towards the station, after falling back down you go into a moderately sized airtime hill which drops you into a banked turn which sends you into another airtime hill. After two more airtime hills, you go up and into the brake run. (which is like a tunnel thing)

Fast Five Facts:
1: The Racer opened open with the park in 1972
2: The Racer at Kings Island is supposedly the start of the golden age of roller coasters.
3: In 1976 The Racer gave its most rides in one season at a whopping
3,681,338 rides
4: The blue side of the Racer used to go backward.
5: On May 28, 1982, one side of the Racer became the world’s first full-length, backward traveling roller coaster
